Acrylic on panel, framed in a vintage frame (which has signs of age, scuffing, chips, etc. please see photos). Also please look at the photos to get an idea of the colours, as they are a little difficult to capture on film.
This self portrait shows me holding one of our homegrown pumpkins, with one of my favorite birds, the Tawny Frogmouth. I had a very clear vision for this painting, wanting the background to be matte, while the figures were varnished, with goldleaf stars shining around them. Getting the textures right was very important for this piece. I was inspired by Magritte's "Son of man" and sparking conflict in the viewer over the tension of the seen and unseen. I've been described as an intense person, I also wanted to capture that a bit.
